Current Image

Below is the most recent image of the fires currently burning in the continental United States. All current-day photos are in a preliminary state meaning the data is updated throughout the fire shift (which runs from 1-11pm EST). For this reason, preliminary images are not cached. This site will automatically update each day at 2pm to archive the previous days final list of fires, although the image below is generated on page load for the most recent information. Yesterday's final image.

Project Info

This was a project to further my learning of image manipulation in PHP as well as a test in filesystem management (creating, opening, and reading files). It also turned out to be a good experience in retrieving data from remote locations.

The data used was retrieved from NOAA's Satellite Services Division of Fire Products. The base image used was generated from Cornell Universities Digital Earth.
